Thank you to all the Anna’s fans that helped us
celebrate 15th anniversary!

Read on to learn about our contest winners …

Our “My Anna’s Story” contest has concluded and we were blown away by all the fantastic entries. The support of our fans means the world to us and to be able to learn about your individual connections to Anna’s Taqueria was amazing. We were humbled by all the wonderful stories – from creative musical tributes to funny anecdotes, favorite orders and beyond.

It was extremely difficult to choose just one winner; each and every entry was so special and heartfelt, we actually had to bring in some unbiased experts to help us decide. Thank you to our judges: Dave Baldwin (Thrillist); J. Patrick Brown (The Weekly Dig); Jenny Johnson (NECN’s TV Diner); Leah Mennies (Boston magazine); and, Tom O’Keefe (BostonTweet).

To 15 more exciting, joyous, burrito-filled years. Thank you again for all your support!

Now without further ado…

The Winner – a moving poem by Jen F.:

When a cloth-napkin restaurant lost our reservation, you were our first date.
When our nights-out outnumbered our nights in, you were our go-to for late night food.
When our nights-in started to outnumber our nights out, you were our choice for take-out.
When we moved in together, you were our post-move snack.
When we moved to the MIT campus for grad school, you did too.
When we got married, we considered asking you to cater (though we ultimately decided to spare you the trip to Acadia National Park in Maine).
When we had our first child, you served us our first out-of-the-house postpartum meal.
When our child grew teeth, he started with the boiled chicken.

Thank you for being a part of our family, in your own way.

Runner-Up #2 – an honest letter from Captain Rick H.:

From 1998-2002, I ate a lot of Anna's Tacqueria [sic] while studying at Boston College. My favorite was the vegetable burrito, not only due to the taste, but because of the utter focus and attention your employees placed on ensuring I received the precise vegetable allocation. There was *no* way I was getting shortchanged an onion and getting two carrots. Your attention to detail kept me coming back.

In the spring of 2004, then-First Lieutenant JD was returning from Iraq with the US Army. I was preparing to leave for my own Army sojourn to the Middle East. Eight friends decided to meet in Key West to welcome our friends back from the war. JD loved Anna's more than I; he ate it 30 days consecutively if I recall. We used Anna's as a barter system and would owe one another "an Anna's" for doing a favor. Adding chips and guacamole was like half a favor.

As I prepared to fly to Key West, I realized JD hadn't had Anna's in over a year. I went to the Beacon Street Anna's in Brookline and got 4 burritos and put them in a cooler. I flew to Key West with those 3 burritos in that cooler (Hey, I got hungry!) and presented my buddy with them. He tested the shelf stability of Anna's by rationing half of a burrito per night for 6 nights while carousing in Key West. He really likes your burritos.

If you sent us your story, but were not listed here as a winner or runner-up, please send us an email at myannasstory@annastaqueria.com with your name and address and we would love to send you a small token of our appreciation – free burrito cards!
